Using Layering in Your Scrapbook Layouts

Layering is a great way to add dimension and interest to your scrapbooking layouts.  It adds depth and texture.

Layering is also a great technique for using up all of those scraps that we always save just in case!

If you are new to layering you can start simple, perhaps start by layering photo mats of different sizes behind your photo, and you can even use foam mounts to adhere your photo to the photo mats for extra dimension.

You can layer your background papers.  Overlap them, add strips of paper or other shapes over the top.

Washi tape is another product great for layering.  It is so simple and easy to use.  Just place it wherever you need to add interest and colour.

Creative cuts and fussy cut pieces are perfect for creating layering on your layout.  Use them to peek out from behind a photo or from behind other elements such as tags or words.  These look great when you build up clusters and place them around the photo.  Before you stick them down ensure that your layout looks balanced.

Start with some simple layering and before you know it you will be able to build up to more complex layering using more elements and embellishments.  Once you start you can't stop!!

Here's a few layouts with gorgeous layering for inspiration:
